ACDelco introduces durable brakes for law enforcement vehicles

Michigan automotive parts manufacturer ACDelco, a subsidiary of General Motors, has announced the introduction of a new line of durable brake products designed specifically to meet the needs of police forces nationwide. The ACDelco Professional DuraStop Police line includes brake pads and rotors made of resilient materials for heavy-duty law enforcement driving applications.

The brake pads are made from a highly resistant compound and are attached to the backing plate with a bond that is strong enough to prevent it from separating. This can happen during heavy-duty driving due to the high temperatures that the brakes reach. The company has also added a constrained-layer shim to reduce noise.

The rotors are designed in a vane configuration that optimizes airflow, helping to dissipate heat and reduce its effect. They are made of damped iron, a sturdy material that mitigates both noise and vibration, and treated with a polymer binding anti-corrosion coating to further extend their lifespan.

Components in law enforcement vehicles have to be especially resistant to aggressive driving compared to most automobiles. At Greening we understand the distinction, and we offer testing for the D³EA Police and Public Service Vehicle (PPSV) Certification. This test helps to gauge the adequacy of brake friction materials and rotors for these vehicles, including for replacement parts, and is designed according to the guidelines of the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS).

We also offer our own NVH Dynamometer to assess noise, vibration and harshness in components, and its accompanying software, Greening Sound_Works™. Contact us at info@greeninginc.com for more information on our law enforcement vehicle testing services.
