D³EA® Testing / PPSV Certification

D³EA® Police and Public Service Vehicle (PPSV) Certification is a voluntary validation process for replacement brake friction materials and rotors on these specialty vehicles. PPSV Certification captures the critical system-level performance characteristics of police and other emergency service vehicles while using Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS) guidelines.

Greening Testing Laboratories conducts dual-end brake dynamometer testing for PPSV Certification. PPSV Certified replacement brake friction parts are validated in matched sets (front brake and rear brake parts are tested together) and meet or exceed FMVSS performance requirements.

“Speed Rated” PPSV products have been subjected to the requirements of both FMVSS 135 and a new test protocol based on the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department (LASD) vehicle brake and handling procedure. The LASD test sequence replicates the high-speed braking events used in new vehicle evaluations and features unique time- and distance-controlled braking events. Replacement brake parts are exposed to operating temperatures exceeding 800°C (1470°F). PPSV-approved rotors also meet criteria for thermal fatigue and high load strength.
